Show of the Day: West Side Story (1957)
West Side Story was a jolting, revolutionary musical for its time. The story is about New York street gangs who regularly rumbled & fought each other for territory & revenge. The energetic choreography featuring finger-snapping, leaping, & crouching dancers is a common sight to modern theatre-goers but was completely new and jarring to 1957 audiences. But Jerome Robbins’ dance numbers skillfully advanced the plot along with the spoken & sung passages. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, the story of star-crossed lovers featured a ground-breaking score by the well-known composer, Leonard Bernstein, and a libretto by an unknown named Stephen Sondheim, who would later become one of Broadway’s best-known librettists. The show has endured & become a well-loved audience favorite with several major revivals.

This prompt made me think of using a series of pictures that were from the same event. I thought it was appropriate to use these of the scrap happy ladies at the scrap gals retreat in Seattle. It was great fun to hang out with people I only knew online. I am so happy that we have a great family picture to commentate this weekend.
