Show of the Day: Les Misérables (1987)
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, this musical by Schönberg & Boublil has become an international sensation that is enduring. It follows the story of Jean Valjean, arrested for stealing bread for his sister’s starving child and imprisoned for nineteen years. His redemption and attempts to atone by taking in a prostitute’s orphaned daughter are the basis of the bulk of the story, set against a student-led revolution in Paris. The Broadway production ran from 1987-2003 and is the fifth longest-running Broadway show in history. It was nominated for twelve Tony Awards and won eight, including Best Musical. It has had many US and international touring companies, concert productions, regional productions, and a school edition. The 2012 film version utilized a rare technique of recording the vocals on set using live piano accompaniments played through earpieces, with the orchestral accompaniment added later. This allowed the actors the freedom of emotion available in a stage production, rather than lip-synching.

Choose Your Prompt (or do both):
Featured Designer:
Our featured designer today is Tina Campbell.
I switched the prompt to a kindness that I did, which certainly made me feel good. I made sure to include the word kindness on the layout to draw attention to the prompt. There was a story of when our club hosted a national convention and this was the 1st Museum to be toured during the event. The ones that were attending out of town we helped with rides to the museum. The couple that road with me was from Wisconsin, Karen and her husband. Karen and I hit it off great as we both scrapped 🙂 Small world as they say.
