Show of the Day: The Phantom of the Opera (1988)
The Phantom of the Opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber is the longest-running Broadway show in history. It opened in January 1988 and is still running with almost 13,000 performances. It was the first Broadway production to top 10,000 performances and accomplished that in 2012. It was nominated for ten, and won seven, Tony Awards. Based on the novel by Gaston Leroux, the story centers on a masked, musical genius living below the Paris Opera House who becomes obsessed with a soprano named Christine Daaé. His increasing control over her conflicts with her renewal of an old friendship with Raoul, which turns into love on their part and a source of extreme jealousy on the part of the Phantom. Soaring melodies plus clever lyrics by Charles Hart have combined to make this an extremely popular show which has had several touring companies as well international productions on six continents.

Choose Your Prompt (or do both):
Our featured designer today is Alison Day.
I knew straight away what I was going to scrapbook when I read my prompt email from Alice – my mother-in-law had taken us to see the Phantom of the Opera last year! I knew I had the playbill and I found that easily enough but could not find a photo until I scoured my sister-in-law’s Facebook feed. It’s kind of a bad photo but sometimes you’ve got to use what you have and move on!
Since this is a colour prompt I grabbed my stack of black and white papers and let them be my guide. Yep, I cheated and added gold! Sometimes you’ve just got to!
I don’t think Alice realized this when she assigned this prompt to me but … my youngest daughter is named Christine, as was her aunt before her … Christine Day … Christine Daae … brings extra meaning to the musical for us all.
I filmed the process for everyone to see, you can see the video with THIS LINK, or view it below!
