Inspiration We're *FALL*ing For
In this post we are celebrating the enchanting beauty of fall! As the leaves transform into vibrant shades of amber, crimson, and gold – and cozy sweaters become our go-to attire – there’s an undeniable magic in the air. The scent of pumpkin spice wafts through our homes, setting the perfect backdrop for the arrival of spooky season. The transition to fall, with all its comforts, also sparks our creativity in crafting. Join us as we explore how the rich colours and themes of autumn can inspire our scrapbook pages, allowing us to capture the warmth and whimsy of this delightful time of year!
Laurie's "Crisp + Golden Days" Layout
“To create this layout, I selected a warm, autumnal background paper filled with pumpkins and rich orange tones. Since I wanted the photo to be the focal point I framed it in pink to match the colors in the photo and the paper. I used embellishments like, flowers, pumpkins and postage stamps to create my clusters. I even popped some up using foam dots to give depth. If you look closely at the bottom you will notice I also popped up some pumpkins to give added dimension. Additional items like the view master reel and small word phrases help to create visual interest.” (Laurie)
Lindsy's Spooktacular Vibes
“I absolutely adore spooky season—it’s the perfect excuse to wear outlandish costumes and embrace haunting vibes! Darker, dusty, and vintage tones lend themselves beautifully to my creative projects this time of year. When crafting in October I never feel limited to traditional scrapbooking. I also make things such as bookmarks or projects (such as this upcycled vinyl record album)! Plus I love any excuse to add oddball ephemera, or distress edges using a sanding block or ink. This season truly inspires a playful spirit of creativity, allowing me to capture the magic and mystery of Halloween in all its glorious forms!” (Lindsy)
Spring into Fall with Claire C.
“As we roll into October, I see all the ‘fall’ posts and pumpkins and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice latte chatter online … But for me, in Western Australia, we breathe a sigh of relief because Spring has sprung! The time for new beginnings, less rain, and crops to grow in the fields I pass on my way to work. My daughter and I have watched the farmers burn the fields and replant – then, hey presto! There is hay and wheat and canola in the fields. It really is magical.
Rather than celebrating the season, I chose to use the cheerful field to illustrate the fact that it cannot help but make one smile, even if one is travelling a difficult path at the time.
For this layout I also thought it would be fun to use Photoshop to make the pic look like a watercolour (clearly it doesn’t – that was too hard and it wasn’t fun. I might need to do a course with Melissa Shanhun). I did, however, manage to remove a fence post and add a sweet quote. The other picture was too nice not to use, so I lined it up (ish) with the field.
My Silhouette machine was utilised for the title and the vellum flowers, as a ‘swathe’ across the page. I used a pen to doodle a few lines on them. And rhinestones! Yes! I had to put glue behind them but now they definitely won’t come off.” (Claire C.)
Claire W.'s Sweetest Little Learner
“I’ve always equated fall with back to school season. This photo of my 4 year old granddaughter practicing her letters melts my heart. My layouts often have multiple layers of pattern paper and a cluster or two, with my photo taking center stage. The library catalogue in the background dictated my colors and embellishments. A little stitching and voila another memory captured!” (Claire W.)
