Easy Peasy Hybrid Layouts

Taking Project Life layouts to the next level

I am, and always will be, a paper scrapbooker. My go to size is 12″ layouts because I love the amount of space I have to play in. However, when Becky Higgins introduced pocket pages to us, I thought I might do that, too! That was an epic fail for me, but when she brought the Project Life app to the world, I was sold!

One of the most useful ways I use it is when it is time for LOAD and I am working, or on holiday. It enables me to create a layout and submit it on time.  I can’t say I am terribly skillful  with the app but there is a lot of inspiration online, so I have picked up a few useful tricks.  I have also purchased a few kits and definitely would recommend purchasing the extra text option.  The cards in the kits can be printed out and used on paper layouts, too.

An example of using the extra text option ...

This layout was made using a template with 2 landscape photo options. There was no journalling boxes so I used the extra text facility to write directly on the photos. The ‘2021’ was made by using it in each photo with the same  font placing the numbers so they lined up.

Taking the digital to hybrid - three examples

I have approximately 200 pages stored in the app but have only printed a few of them. When I do print them, I usually print onto A4 photo paper (letter size would work, too) and trim to a square. I have made the mistake occasionally of having my text too small but if I want to change that before printing, I can.

1. Basic - cardstock and paper

This first layout was pretty straightforward – I had all the text I needed plus a title so thought I would simply create a background. I was going to use up all my number stickers but had my Silhouette machine out and was in the cutting zone!

I forgot to take a screenshot of my Silhouette desktop – but I used it to cut a square slightly smaller than my photo to save my black cardstock. I also used that for the placement of the numbers around the page before I cut them.

This really was a very simple page to do but I like it – I used all my family birthday numbers – not that I am sure anyone will notice!

2. Choosing from my stash

This layout is all about me being independent. I could not find specific embellishments for this topic so chose them based on some of the pics. The camera and tickets were print and cut stickers that I had made, so extra hybrid points for me! The papers were from a kit I did at  reunion with the ScrapGals in 2018, so it fit nicely with the photo.

(I have just noticed my glaring mistake in the journalling for that pic – oops!)

3. I am all in!

This is my mother in law – she loves flowers and is a garden wizard. This simply had to be an over the top flower fest! I achieved this using my trusty Silhouette Cameo.

First things first, using my Silhouette machine and a few different files from the library, I filled the 12 x 12 media space with blooms. I then cut the same thing repeatedly, using different colour papers. This was a great opportunity to use up old papers. I also did the same with the leaves and stems but only 2 sheets of different greens were used. I then assembled the flowers in layers, mixing the colours on some. I glued them together and left them to dry. I took this opportunity to alter the very old background paper using some shimmer sprays in the blue, green and pink.

I raised the pic up on foam so I could slide the flowers under easily and cut a lot of the blooms half so I could place them around the picture as I feel it looks more balanced.

As you can see, it is very simple to bring the layout off the phone and onto the paper page. I really enjoy the process and hope you give it a try!
