Exploring Scrappy Styles

Do you know what your scrappy style is? From pure digital layered magic to absolutely clean and simple graphic styles, there is so much to think about in approaching our layouts. While you may already have a go-to preference, you may also be curious about other options out there. You may want to try new things, or you may just really appreciate “that look” that never shows up on your own pages. Whatever place you may be in, here on the blog we have you covered.

As our new creative team is up and running we have had a burst of new ideas to bring to the blog. Today I want to share a bit on how we will be exploring various scrapbooking methods and styles in the coming months.

Digital Scrapping Feature

Once a month our team will tackle some digital scrapping topics. I know we have a solid crew of ScrapHappy members who are purely digital and some who use a mix. So this monthly series will be helpful to our own members as well as the general public.

Even if you have never touched a layout program before, some of our topics just may encourage you to dip in a toe. From the simplicity of the Project Life app on phones to the full Photoshop experience, there is a place in the digital world for everyone. We’ll even cover some hybrid scrapping topics to get you started in the idea of digital work!

Alternative Memory Keeping

We all know that scrapping changes and evolves. From photo albums containing brief names and dates, to true scrapbooks stuffed with all the real life ephemera: newspaper articles, play programs, concert ticket and even grocery store receipts, people have been recording memories in many ways. Somewhere along the way 12×12 layouts became “standard”. Yet crafters have continued to find ways outside of this box to document their lives.

We’ll be sharing lots of alternative sizes of typical layouts. In addition we’ll include other projects such as wall hangings, that will be a place to hold those special moments. I don’t know what else may be coming, but I know I’m excited to see what comes up in our Alternative Memory keeping monthly articles.

Mixed Media

Even those two little words can scare some people away. I used to be one of them! I hate cleaning and the idea of mixed media was just too overwhelmingly messy. Little by little along the way I got over that dread, and now I fully embrace the mixed media joy.

Joy. When I’m at the sink rinsing off paint from tools, I still feel the joy and that is how I overcame the fear of mixed media. So, whether or not you fear those words, we’ll bring you some pages full of joyful beauty to admire—and hopefully inspire you—to get your hands messy.

P.S. mixed media does’t have to be messy and we’ll show you that too!

Seasonal Topics

Here in the US we are moving into a very busy holiday season. With Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years all happening in the next three months, there are sure to be plenty of photos snapped. Not to mention, we’ll have lovely leaf photos and maybe even some snow photos to document.

I’m glad we will be bringing you monthly seasonal inspiration from the traditional color palettes, to maybe, just maybe, a few things less common ideas. We hope to inspire you no matter what your seasonal style may be.

And more...

In addition to all the above goodness, we have even more in store for you. We will be doing a Card Inspiration post each month as well as bringing back Sketch Inspiration with a post each month. We want to make sure that anyone who loves paper will find something fun on the blog!

As a huge craft dabbler myself, I’m glad to see all types of paper styles supported. If you feel like we missed something, drop us a note and we’ll see if we can incorporate more ideas.
