I was at an impasse with my 12×12 scrapbooking. The albums were unwieldy and difficult to store. I happened upon an article by Lisa Moorefield and it blew me away. She went through all her supplies, kept only what she loved and began to create in the 8×8 size. I was hooked! Her children loved the smaller size and it unleashed her mojo. It did take a bit of work to resize sketches, photos and placement but once I got into the groove of this new size I never looked back. The smaller size is easier to fill, paper goes a lot further and the same design concepts used in larger layouts apply to this smaller canvas. The albums are easier to store and are the perfect size for my grandchildren.
Let’s start with photos. I use the Print to size app, it’s easy and fairly intuitive. There are other apps that can be used to resize photos and I would love for others chime in with their favorites. 4×4 photos are a great size as well as 2×3’s. Here are some examples of layouts using a couple of photos of various sizes, it can be done!
Speaking of layouts, I have a sweet, little cheat sheet for you, a 12×12 to 8×8 conversion chart. This is incredibly helpful when I am using sketches.
Here are a couple more layouts and a photo of my granddaughter thumbing through her album. I swear this was not staged My daughter sent this photo to me and it made my day.
Memory keeping is a great creative outlet for me, but more importantly these albums are my love letters to my family. In a future post I will breakdown some 12×12 sketches and turn them into 8×8 layouts. Happy Scrapping!
