Record Your Memories with a Heartfelt Scrapbook Layout
Creating a scrapbook layout is all about recording memories in a visually appealing and meaningful way. This month’s sketch provides a great blueprint to help you design a heartfelt page with ease. Without further adieu, here is the sketch we will be working with for February, which was designed by one of our team members, Misty Murphy.

The Gist of It
This sketch features a large heart as the focal point, which makes this perfect for themes centered around love, family, or any special moment. The structured placement of a title, photo spots, and a journaling area ensures a balanced composition.
I’m going to show you two ways to use this sketch. The first will be to use it exactly as shown and the second will show you how to put your own creative spin on it by pulling elements from the sketch to create your layout.
Layout Number One
I created this layout by using a mix of soft colors and embellishments. I followed the sketch’s structure by placing a large heart as the focal point. The title is positioned in the upper left corner, mirroring the sketch’s placement. I kept the photo in the designated spot, as I did with the journaling spot and banner. Heart accents complete the look.

Layout Number Two
For this layout, I used the sketch as a guide while incorporating my own creative elements. Instead of the large heart as the focal point, I used a mix of patterned papers with bold colors and geometric designs to create my background. I did follow the sketch’s placement for the title, which I feel draws attention to the page’s theme. The photo remained in the designated spot, which I framed with layers of flowers to add some dimension. I kept the journaling placement on a longer banner. I also kept the heart accents.

Lindsy's Layout
Now let’s see what Lindsy created and what she had to say about it.
“I had so much fun with this sketch. Although I followed the general structure and intent of the original sketch, I absolutely took liberties to put my own creative spin on things! It feels like such a win when I find myself inspired, yet spiral off down my own path. Or in this case, perhaps I should say rabbit hole…”

“Both the sketch and my design feature a large primary photo, and a boldly patterned base paper. Additionally, I included a dedicated journaling space in the shape of a banner to capture the story, just as the sketch suggests. A sprinkling of gems on my finished layout represent the tiny heart embellishments shown in Misty’s original.
However, my layout departs from the sketch in several key ways. Instead of using a heart-shaped background, I opted for a rectangular arrangement and richly decorated backdrop (featuring a whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme). While the sketch has a minimal, modern feel with simple embellishments, I took a bolder approach. I embraced my love for intricate, stylized details – such as floral clusters, vintage pocket watches, and oversized theme ephemera – to build dimensional layers. Instead of one angled secondary photo, I chose to include two extra photos as they helped better represent the story I wanted to tell. Finally, I opted to eliminate the use of a ‘classic’ title, letting the “We’re all mad here” sentiment strip complement my journaling.”

Final Thoughts
These layouts are a great example of how you can use a sketch as a starting point while allowing for creative freedom to make it uniquely yours. Whether you follow a sketch exactly or use it as inspiration, the key is to have fun and let your creative juices flow!
Until next month, Happy Scrapping!
