Hello scrappy friends! It’s time for this month’s sketch inspiration. Here is the sketch we will be playing with. It was designed by one of our team members, Alexandra Otte.

One of my favorites ways to jumpstart a scrapbook layout is by using a sketch. Sketches give a great foundation to build from while still leaving plenty of room for creativity. Today I’m sharing how I used this playful star-themed sketch to create a layout featuring one of my favorite photos of my grandson.
The original sketch featured three photos, one that was tilted, a scattering of stars, a designated journaling spot, and a bold title area. While I didn’t follow it exacty, it gave me a perfect starting point to guide the flow and placement of elements on my page.
Let’s see what I did.

For my layout, I used a single vertical photo, centering the attention on his sweet little face. I swapped out the stars for hearts and tags, which felt more fitting for the soft, cozy theme I was going for. I used the other two photo elements in the sketch as layering pieces behind my photo. By using different shades and textures it helped create depth and made my photo the focal point.
I added a tag and journaling to the right side staying true to the sketch’s suggestion of journaling. I placed the title at the bottom of the layout where the sketch had indicated.
Here are a few close ups.

Final Thoughts
As I’ve said before, using a sketch as inspiration doesn’t mean copying it exactly, although you could. It’s all about adapting the structure to fit your story and style. If you’re every feeling stuck, trying pulling out a sketch and let your creativity take over. You might just create something truly special.
