Go To Designs-The Magnificent Grid
Hey everyone, Claire here to share one of my favorite type of layouts, the versatile grid design. This design creates a sense of balance and harmony on a scrapbook page which speaks to my rectilinear soul! Here are a few of my layouts incorporating a grid.

Squares are an obvious choice for this style. In the first image there are no spaces between the squares and my photo is place in the center of the layout. The second image has space between the squares and an off-center photo. There is still lots of space for embellishment clusters to add interest to the layout. I tried not to use square elements in the clusters so my eye has a different place to land around the photo. In the next photos I tweaked the squares to add some softness to the layout-

I used a corner rounder on two edges of my squares. The butterfly layout lets the photo tell the story with minimal embellishments. The patterns and colors enhance the photo The Best Brother layout was a Calvinball submission and its all about the embellishments while still being photo-centric.

Guess what? The squares do not have to be itty bitty. Here are larger squares with the title, embellishments and photo set on the diagonal which complements the grid design.
I went outside of my comfort zone and used circles on one layout and set my squares on a diagonal in the other-

Here are several thoughts about creating a successful grid design. It is important to evenly distribute color and pattern throughout the page to avoid the dreaded “clump” effect. A grid may seem restrictive at first, but there are so many possibilities for arranging elements. You can use different configurations, one photo or multiple photos. My granddaughter sends me her “outfit of the day” and I’m hoping to create a grid design with lots of photos. Journaling can fall neatly into a part of the grid as well as lots of embellishments. There is structure, balance and organization with a grid but also an opportunity to use different design elements, pattern and color. My best advice, experiment with shapes, placement and color. We all have a ton of scraps and this is a perfect opportunity to put them to good use.
I will now leave you with a grid design using triangles, came close to losing my mind over this one but I love the way it turned out
