The more the merrier

This our motto of today! And we are talking about more elements, a lot of them actually, in a repetitive approach. Sounds fun? It definitely is!

What if we choose one element or a bunch of the same kind as main design element for our page? The repetitive elements will do all the work on our pages today.
Since winter and holiday card making has a great start this month on the blog we will take a look at the possibilities of digital cards with today’s design topic, too!
If you want to see some awesome hand crafted holiday cards, you should really ckeck out Claire’s post!

First I will show you a few examples of pages with some variations in using the concept of repetition.

All the same

We could choose the exact same element as the main focus of our page.

In the first example the die cut flowers totally make the page. Besides the 10 or more of those identical flowers there is only paint and two single different foliage elements.
Like in the second one, you can also choose a background paper that contributes to the allover element look.

The snowflakes in the third page are all the same kind, just different colours. Besides some small wintery wordarts the snowflakes are the only elements used here.
On the fourth page is a lot more variety in elements but the dragonflies are the main topic, represented by it’s repetition all over the page. The title of the page reads “Dragonflies everywhere”.

An awesome thing about digi scrapping is that you can vary the size of everything. I think this is an important aspect of this technique that makes the designs interesting.

Same but different

To get a bit more variety, we can also choose different elements of the same kind.
For example about 20 different snowflakes like in the first layout.

Both of the winter layouts were created for challenges with the goal to use the same but different elements.
On the page with all the deers it is more obvious that it was the plan to use all kinds of different deer elements, I think. Snowflakes seem to come more naturally as a scatter. 😉 But this can also make a page really special. It was really fun to create that little landscape with them.

These two layouts are a mix of different elements and using the same one again and again as well.
The autumn page also uses a lot of different wordart as a design element. What brings us to our last topic:

Art from wordarts

Even repetitive word art can make for great and unique pages!

You can arrange them rather randomly on you page or repeat the exact same element and size to create a geometrical style like the spiral matching the tree rings on the second page.

And two more examples of same but different: In the first one, there is only the background paper and the sun besides the word arts to create the design. The main part of the second page is the huge title accompanied by tons more of the letters scattered as a frame around the page. I used an inner and outer glow to give the frame letters a little different look from the title ones, but they are the same alphas.

Fun with cards!

Have you ever made your greeting cards digitally?
For holiday cards it is usually a very good thing when they are easy and not that time consuming. And this is where digital scrapbooking comes in handy. You can just create one card, print it several times and you’ve already provided half of your family and friends with awesome self-made cards.
Let’s see how we can create easy holiday cards with our design topic!

Since I love all things snowy, of course there had to be one card with snowflakes! For the background I wanted a subtle mixed media look, so I used watercolour elements and added stamped snowflakes with an opacity of  30 to 60%.  When the title and the sequin snowflakes were added the card just screamed for a little snowman, so I had to stretch the concept of one repeated element a little. 😉 But hey, that’s what the creative process is all about!

For this more traditional kind of christmas card I chose gifts as my element.  For the background I used a pocket card matching my theme. Do you see all the little gifts in the background? 😉 That is another great way to make card making very easy. You could even choose a pocket card with a sentiment that fits your purpose and just decorate a bit more to finish.

We are all about an easy process for our Holiday and New Year’s greetings, so why not choose a layout you love and create a card from that? You don’t have to start looking for suitable material, just grab what you need from the original layout file. And you already have an idea of the design and style of the card. I thought the clover layout might be perfect for a New Year’s card.
