A Different Kind of Motivation
If you recall, back in January I did a post about a recent health scare that sparked an urgent need to purge and reorganize my scrapbook room. Click here to see that post. At that time, it felt emotional, necessary, and honestly a little overwhelming. Now, after some time has gone by, I can see that it wasn’t about clearing space, but about clearing my mental clutter too. I wasn’t just organizing supplies, I was redefining how I wanted to spend my creative time.
Less Becomes More
After Letting go of excess, I immediately noticed how much easier it became to create. I am no longer shuffling piles or digging through drawers searching for something I think I have or might use. Okay, let’s be real….I am by nature a “piler,” and will always probably have small piles here and there. And, I’m okay with that, as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. I even have some empty drawers now. Go me!
Now, I can sit down and start. With fewer choices, I feel more inspired. I purged a lot of embellishments that I knew I would never use and have rediscovered my stamps and metal dies. I am so enjoying making my own embellishments that I know I will use.
Closet Organization
Before reorganizing, my closet felt like a catch all space where supplies were stacked, squeezed and hard to access. Boxes filled the floor, shelves were crowded, and I had to move things around just to reach what I needed.
I added, well, actually, my husband added shelves, although. it was my idea. Clear, labeled containers now sit on the shelves, and like items are grouped together in a way that makes sense. Mostly what are on the shelves are seasonal supplies, such as Autumn. Halloween and Christmas. Since I normally don’t use these products year round, it made sense to store them in the closet. Empty albums are now neatly contained.
Staying Organized
I’m not aiming for perfection. I’m focusing on maintaining a system that is easy to keep up with. Most everything has a home now. It’s still a work in progress. Here’s a look at my ink storage. I’ve managed to keep this neat and tidy. Next to my inks are some collection kits that are neatly labeled.
Ignore the mess on my desk below that shelf. I told you it was a work in progress.
A Shift in Perspective
The biggest change wasn’t it my room, it was in my mindset. That health scare reminded me that time is precious, and I don’t want to spend it managing stuff. I want to spend my time telling stories, preserving memories, and enjoying the process.
Final Thoughts
This follow-up feels less about organizing and more about what came after. The purge created space, physically and emotionally, for creativity to flow. My goal is to create more, stress less about the mess, and appreciate the supplies I chose to keep.
Remember, keep what inspires you and let the rest go.
Happy Scrapbooking!
