ALISON!

Here’s her acceptance speech and today’s prompt
and we promise not to cue the music to cut her speech short!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having fun during the S.H.O LOAD1012!

My name is Alison Day (I go by the really creative handle of AlisonDay in the ScrapHappy community and daydesigns in Flickr) and I was really honored to be asked to come up with a prompt for this month’s fun. I have been actively scrapping for 3-1/2 years but have been creative all my life. I have always loved taking photographs and I think I can trace this to my Dad. I remember groaning as we waited for him to get the perfect shot! Ah, those long gone pre-digi days of yore!! I kept photo albums and journals throughout my University years and started a scrapbook of our Honeymoon shortly after we came home but never finished it. In January of 2009 I was anxiously awaiting the birth of my 3rd daughter and wanting to fill in ALL those extra hours I had since I couldn’t continue my Interior Design studies until after the birth. So I ripped apart my old honeymoon album and started again. This time I finished it and was so hooked I started a baby album for my eldest daughter (then 5.) I haven’t looked back since!

Currently I am on two Design Teams – Practical Scrappers (http://www.practicalscrappers.com/) and Let’s Get Sketchy (http://letsgetsketchy.blogspot.ca/). The experience has been amazing! I am scrapping so much more now and doing more meaningful layouts too thanks to all the great teachers I’ve had – starting with Lain! This will be my 4th LOAD and I am super excited and super determined to complete all 31 days! Guess I’ve already got one down, right?!

For today I have a Starting Point AND a challenge for you. If any of you are familiar with THE scrapping goddess herself, Shimelle Lain (www.shimelle.com) then you have probably seen these on her site. I am a huge fan of them! I love my sketches but somehow I find these are even easier to deal with. Think of them as a living sketch. What do I mean by that? Instead of a diagram showing you a series of boxes, lines and curves that denote papers, photos and embellishments, this is an actual example of a layout BEFORE all the extras are added on. You get to see potential color combinations and how a designer puts patterns and shapes together to create their base. THEN you see it finished and see how it all comes together.

In the spirit of the Opening Credits of this LOAD, I challenge you to use some memorabilia from a show or sporting event. You know you’ve got them hanging around – tickets, programs, souvenirs – and you may not be sure what to do with them. Well, here is one idea!

My Starting Point

I kept it super simple so the photos can be the star and the visually busy program won’t detract from them.

Here is the memorabilia I plan to use – the program from my daughter’s first ever “proper” dance recital, our tickets and pictures of the girls in full costume, hair and makeup.

And finally, my finished layout (well, actually I realized after taking this picture that I forgot to journal so I guess that will be MY task for today!)

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! To check out more pictures of this layout and what I did for journaling, please visit my blog at http://adayinthelifeor5.blogspot.ca/. See you on the message boards!

DON’T FORGET! The Flickr group goes private at midnight tonight, and the super-secret October password is banana bread (I’m serious).
