Somber News.

Dear family,

It is with a very heavy heart that I write to let you know that we have lost a member of the ScrapHappy family.

Alison Charlton, aka “AlisonC” on ScrapHappy and “Scrapmother” on Flickr, passed away from pancreatic cancer this past July. She was 55, and leaves behind a loving family, including us here at SH.

Alison loved scrapbooking and always shared her enthusiasm here at SH as she’d talk about how many more “sleeps” there were before LOAD. She had an infectious sense of humor, and it is easy to see through her scrapbook layouts that she adored life and adored her family — and she adored us, as well.

My regret is that no one here knew how serious her illness was, and we were not able to support her. But maybe having a place to go where her illness was not the focus, was what she needed.

Alison was a loyal SH family member, and at the time of her death, her membership was paid up through June 2015. I will be taking the credit for her membership and donating it to the Aasha Foundation for Girls on behalf of ScrapHappy in her name.

Alison will be missed by all of us, and of course, by her family. But we can sleep a little sounder, knowing that we have a ScrapHappy angel watching over us.

P.S. Thank you to Connie Hanks for letting me know about Alison’s passing. If any of you know of any of our members who need help, a shoulder, or a prayer or a smile, please please let Dani or me know. We are here for all of you.

  1. That’s really sad news. I was just thinking of her and noticed that she hadn’t been posting for a while. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Alison and her family will be in my thoughts.

  2. Oh no! I had no idea. I only messaged her this week to see how she was going and hoped she was OK because she hadn’t posted. This is awful, she was lovely and I feel so bad for her family 🙁

  3. Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Such a dreadful disease. BIL passed away from it 1 1/2 years ago. I’m glad that she could find some release thru crafting.

  4. It really is so sad : ( I was missing her cheery outlook and went looking for her “# of sleeps til LOAD” post when I found the news. We will definitely miss her charm, her wit, her sweetness, her sincerity and truly miss her.

Found this page – her son is raising funds in her name for cancer:

Give an extra tight hug to your loved ones today. xoxo

I JUST became a SH member the end of July, so I did not Alison; however, I CAN (and will) keep her family in my prayers. To die at 55 …. so young with so much in front of her …. is very sad.
With that said …. many prayers going out to her family!!!

  6. I am shocked. I was lucky enough to meet Alison last year while she and her husband were on a business trip to my town. She was just as adorable, sweet and funny in person as she was online. She was a friendly face during a tough adjustment to my new town. I am so saddened by this news. I feel lucky to have known her.

  7. My main contact with Alison was on Flickr during LOAD. I always was drawn to her layouts. Prayers for her family. She will be missed.

This is very sad. Allison was always so upbeat and encouraging, and I enjoyed reading about her moving adventures all over the world. I am sure she is so badly missed by her family, and she will be missed here at ScrapHappy 🙁

  9. I want to thank you for letting us know. I got to “know” Alison through LOADs and ScrapHappy as well as other forums she belonged to. I had absolutely NO idea she was battling cancer. She never referred to it and was always so upbeat. I am positively stunned and sickened by this news. She was so young! How incredibly sad!

  10. Oh no! I wondered why she hadn’t been posting! It never occurred to me that she was sick.
Allison was a force for good here. She always had something upbeat to share, and such a fun outlook on her adventures abroad. She will be greatly missed.

  11. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? I am completely shocked! I had been missing her, and just messaged her yesterday to say I was hoping she would be joining us for October LOAD. In spirit only…

  12. I am so sad to hear this news. She was one of the first people I “knew” around here, would love to have met her in person.
Thank you for letting us know.

Oh wow. I share everyone’s shock. I’d also been wondering why she hadn’t been on the boards. She was one of my first ScrapHappy friends. Always so supportive and upbeat. Her light will be missed.

  14. It is news like this that drives home the mantras, “Make each day count” and “Your Story Matters”. I’m sure those scrapbook pages are like gold to her family. May Alison rest in peace.

  15. oh my, Alison was one of the first to welcome me when I joined ScrapHappy. What a lovely spirit she had to stay so positive during such a tough fight she must have been undergoing. We will miss her here in Scrap Happy land. My heart goes out to her family. thanks for letting us know. Make every day count should be a mantra for all of us!
